Toyota Tacoma 2005 – 2008 Kits 517-518 PDF Additional Installation Instructions

Remove plug at end of channel by tailgate. Then remove all existing bolts that fasten channel to inside of box. SEE ILLUSTRATIONS 1 and 2. Reassemble components as shown in illustration 3. Align assembly with holes in box and start threading each of the new bolts using care to avoid cross threading. After all bolts have been started, proceed to next step.

Illustration 4 above shows how rail fits against inside edge of box at all bolt locations. Refer to note below with illustrations 5 and 6 to see how rail overlaps onto top of box cap by tailgate as bolts are tightened. Use 5/32” allen wrench to tighten each bolt. Lower leg of cover rail is notched out at rear to compensate for the changing shape of the box by tailgate. After cover rail is mounted tight, it will seal on top of the slanted box cap. Make sure weather seal under rail is adhered evenly as it compresses against box cap. See Illustrations 5 and 6.

Tools Needed:
a) T-30 Torx
b) 4mm (or 5/32) Allen Wrench
c) Protective Eyewear

Remove plug from end of utility channel. At rear by tailgate this portion of rail rests on top of slanted section of box. Foam seal under rail compressed against top of box. Area between arrows (about 6”) indicates where rail overlaps onto top of slanted edge of box cap.
