Toyota Recall Coaster Bus Safety PDF Manual

Objective To ensure vehicles affected by this recall are rectified. Background Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Limited has advised the Department of Transport and Regional Services (DoTaRS) that a requirement exists for the initiation of a safety related recall campaign affecting a range of Toyota Coaster buses. This recall involves 6728 Toyota Coaster buses manufactured between July 1992 through June 2004.

Legislation Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999 – s 5. Vehicles must comply with vehicle standards. Issue specifics Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Limited have determined that the two non-protected passenger seats, namely the seat immediately behind the bus side access door and the inboard (aisle) seat behind the driver’s seating position have not been fitted with seat belts in production. All owners of affected vehicles are to be advised by public announcement (advertisement) and will be contacted individually by letter. Owners will be advised not to carry passengers in the two non-protected seating positions until seat belts have been installed.
Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Limited have advised that all vehicles

Assessment criteria involved in this campaign will have lap type seat belts fitted to the two non-protected seating positions. Transport Inspector’s During the course of an inspection, where Transport Inspectors encounter action a vehicle specified in this instruction, they are to:
• Ensure that the recall procedure has been attended to (presence of lap type seat belts fitted to these positions); or
• If not, advise the vehicle operator to make arrangements with the vehicle manufacturer’s agent/supplier to have the problem rectified at the earliest opportunity; and
• Advise the owner/operator not to carry passengers in the two non- protected seating positions until seat belts have been installed. Please note that Defect Notices directing owners/operators to have the seat belts installed are not to be issued at this stage of the recall.
