Toyota Prius hybrid system has two electric motors. When you encounter a large hill, those motors are automatically used. The gasoline engine will rev its most high-RPM power. This makes it possible to move directly to the tire, generate electricity for the engine and recharge the battery-pack all at once. So to the surprise of many new owners, not large hills drain system. You still have plenty of reserves available when you get to the summit.
The gasoline engine is most efficient when running around 70% maximum. So if you can not press the pedal lightly enough to accelerate using only electricity, go ahead and press a little harder than usual. This BRISK (but not aggressive) increase in speed will save a small amount of gas, leading to overall efficiency gains.
The 50 kW electric motor is designed to drive the Prius up to 42 mph (68 km / h). It takes constant when the foot. Slower speeds, like 35 mph (56 km / h) and 30 miles (48 km / h), it is easier. After this maximum speed, or in conditions where more energy is needed, electric motor works in conjunction with petrol engine. If you discover over 42 mph (68 km / h), there are times when the engine will spin (pistons in motion), without being consumed fuel, the normal function of the Planetary-CVT.
