Pontiac GTO 2004-2006 Fuel Pump Upgrade Kit PDF Manual

The 2004 to 2006 GTO fuel system uses a method referred to as a “return side jet” to the fuel pump canister. This means that the fuel from the fuel pressure regulator return is used to create the high speed jet pump that fills the van. The pump itself, as most modern fuel systems, actually pumps the fuel from the bus to the engine and the jet refills the bus.

This means that if you use all or nearly all of the fuel pump can deliver, there is little or no fuel back to the bus by the regulator. Since there is nothing left for the jet, the jet is unable to REFILL the bus and the pump will eventually dry. For this reason it is important to a pump capable of delivering more fuel than necessary on the GTO.
