The 2010 Mazda CX-9 is not just another boxy crossover. It has an aerodynamic form that provides comfort and elegance to seven passengers, and more than adequate cargo space. I drove the Grand Touring CX-9 with the heated, 8-way power adjustable driver seat that memorized settings for up to three drivers. The interior was beautiful, felt luxurious and had more than ample space for even large bodies like myself. But there was something that I didn’t like. Above the navigation screen are the air-vents, and above them is a small, narrow screen that dis- plays time, temperature, miles per gallon, etc. That screen was simply too small. There were times while driving I could not discern the differ- ence between the time and the mpg. The lettering and numbers could not be read because of the angle from the driver and the small size of the lettering. Radio frequency and time were just im- possible to read comfortably, unless you were able to look up and to the right of the steering wheel and then move closer to the front window.

The Mazda CX-9 has a 36-month/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 60- month/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. With a 24-hour roadside assist feature also available. Mile- age is 16 city mpg and 22 mpg on the highway. Great quality, safety, and security features are standard with Mazda. Front air bags and front side impact air bags accompany 3-row side cur- tains with roll over protection. The CX-9 also has roll stability control and front and rear crumple zones. Anti theft immobilize, tire pressure monitoring system, and latch rear child safety seats complement comfortable front active headrests for driver and front passenger. Government safety ratings give the CX-9 five- stars for passenger and driver frontal crash, as well as five-stars for side front and rear crash. The Mazda CX-9 is loaded with tech-savvy advancements that drive all areas of communication and entertainment. The naviga- tion system combines a 7-inch touch screen display with voice command to help find needed routes quickly. The DVD rear-seat entertainment system kept my grandchildren quiet and engaged during a long drive on Thanksgiving Day. Two wireless headsets kept me from having to listen to a Barney episode for the fourth time.
