Hold the rear of the plastic part surrounding the shifter and pull it up and then back toward you to remove it. 5. Spread the metal clip open and pull the cable down to free it from the shifter. 6. Note: The pictures in steps 6 to 8 show the shift assembly out of the car for clarity only.
It is not necessary to remove the shift assembly, leaving it installed in the car makes removal of the blue plastic cup easier. Use caution during these steps. Be certain the tool is fully inserted so the circular cut out on the tool rests around the outer edge of the blue plastic cup. 8. The top portion of the wrench is pushed forward using the large black plastic assembly on the shifter as a pivot point, causing the bottom of the wrench to push back on the Cup Remover Tool to pop off the blue plastic cup. This will prevent damage to the blue plastic cup while removing it. The image to the left shows the blue plastic cup once it has been removed from the shifter. Be sure to keep a hand on the blue plastic cup while prying to prevent losing it as it will tend to pop off rather quickly. A plastic bag can be placed over the cup to avoid losing it when it pops off. Use caution during this step. If you only purchased the short shifter proceed to step 18. 9. Using a 12 mm socket and ratchet with a 6” extension, remove the 3 bolts holding down the shift assembly. 10. It is recommended that you loosen the center console and back it up a few inches to have more room to work while installing the base bushings. To do so, begin by opening the centre console and unscrewing the 2 screws in the base of the storage compartment. Page 8 Page 8 This manual is available for download in color. 11. Remove the 2 screws at the front of the console in front of the shift assembly. 12. Remove the panel on the passenger side (right side) of the centre console. It can be removed simply by pulling down and pulling outward. Page 9 Page 9 This manual is available for download in color. 13. Removal of the panel in the previous step exposes a push clip on the passenger side which must be removed. Pull the centre portion of the push clip to pop it out and remove it. A small flat head screwdriver may be used to pop out the centre portion, then the clip can be slid out of the hole and removed.
14. There is also a push clip on the driver’s side of the centre console located at the front near the pedals. Remove the push clip on the driver’s side in the same manner as the one you removed on the passenger side. The centre console is now free to be slid back a few inches to make room to install the base bushings. If more room is needed to work, the console can be completely removed from the car by unclipping the wiring harness to the right of the shifter a few inches back. First push the metal sleeve out of the rubber grommet with your finger, then remove the rubber grommet by pushing it through the shifter assembly with a flat head screw driver. Use Caution not to drop the bushings inside the console. If you drop a bushing it will be necessary to remove the console to retrieve it as described in the previous step. 16. In order to install the bushings beneath the shifter assembly, you may want to ask a friend to assist. Alternatively, to hold the bushings in place while working you may apply a thin bead of fun tack around the bushing to make them stick to the bottom side of the shift assembly. This will hold them in place while you place the other bushings if you are working alone. Use Caution not to drop the bushings, the console will need to be removed to retrieve them. Place all three bushings under the shift assembly with the smaller diameter facing up so they fit into the holes in the plastic assembly. Thread the bolts back in and tighten them using a 12 mm socket and ratchet. 18. Grease the ball on the TWM shift adapter. Page 12 Page 12 This manual is available for download in color. 19. Using a vice, push the blue cup you removed in step 6 onto the TWM adapter.
20. Slide the adapter onto the shifter, with the slot facing up. This may be easier by pushing the shift cable down to create more space. Page 13 Page 13 This manual is available for download in color. 21. Verify the adapter is fully inserted onto the shifter and apply loctite on the supplied socket cap screw. Tighten the socket cap screw using the supplied 4 mm Allen key until it is properly secured to the shifter shaft. 22. Push the cable back on to the plastic cup on the bottom of the TWM adapter, be sure that the metal clip snaps back into place to secure the shift cable to the shifter. 23. Re-install the console by reversing steps 10 to 14 and 1 to 4. Page 14 Page 14 This manual is available for download in color. 24. Enjoy the ride!
