Fiat have re-introduced two of its most famous subsidiaries to each other and the result is both exciting and …. fun. Carlo Abarth and Enzo Ferrari had collaborated previously back in 1953 with the spectacularly styled Ferrari 166/53 Abarth, a car styled like to other with its large centre headlight and bolt on body panels.

The new Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari builds on a recent partnership deal that saw Fiat 500 Abarth distributed to Ferrari dealerships as courtesy cars. This is not a cynical cash grab badging exercise but rather a well thought out package that honours the two illustrious names and brings a piece of Ferrari pa- nache to the practical end of the market …. and a fun shopping cart for those already with a Scuderia in their garage. Fiat delivers a highly uprated 1.4 Turbo T-Jet 16v that has been tuned by Abarth to deliver over 180 HP.

A major component of this tuning is the “Record Monza” variable back-pressure “dual mode” exhaust, which also gives the added bonus of new aural pleasures over 3,000 rpm.. This desirable little package has been coupled to an MTA (Manual Transmission Automated) electrome- chanical gearbox with paddle gearshift. 17’’ alloy wheels featuring a design inspired by Ferrari wheels assist with the acceleration while nicely filling those wheel arches and giving the 500 a more purposeful look. Behind them sits Brembo 284 mm multi-section discs with fixed four-piston calipers. Suspen- sion has been upgraded with special shock absorbers.. Magneti Marelli Automotive Lighting provide the Xenon headlights with dipped and main beam functions. The interior gets a considerable work- over with “Abarth Corsa by Sabelt” seats finished in black leather with the shell and seat base in carbon fibre.

These seats are 10 kg lighter than the standard units and provide superior lateral and longitudinal support. The steering wheel is black leather and features red leather inserts and a tricolour hub on which the MTA gearshift paddles are mounted. The instrument panel is specially made by Jaeger, and inspired by typical Ferrari instrumentation. There is also a plate bearing the vehicle series number. The final piece that screams Ferrari at you is the Scuderia Red with Rac- ing Grey stripes finish from the 430 Scuderia and with carbon fibre door mir- rors and rear air intakes in Racing Grey. It makes the Toyota iQ-based Aston Martin Cygnet look like a Toyota iQ with a squashed Aston nose ….. stupid.
