Dodge Challenger 2010 New Vechicle PDF Guide

OvERaLL: Musclecar-era power trip adds standard stability control to keep the Challenger‘s tail from wagging; With a base price of $22,000, you can look old-school cool and still be modern. DRivETRaiN: Three engine choices, all the way up to 425 horsepower; new Super Track Pack for more driver control on the SRT8. As retro looking as the new Dodge Challenger is, the clock hasn’t exactly being turned back. Instead, key styling elements have been brought forward from the original 1970s car to find their way into a completely new and modern two-door model.

The bottom line is that the terminally nostalgic get the look they want without fear of raindrops or breaking down on the side of the road. The Challenger is actually built using a shortened version of the Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 rear-wheel-drive platform with four inches removed between the front and rear wheels. The starting point is the SE that combines a 250-horsepower V6 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The midrange R/T gets a 372-horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8, coupled to either a five-speed automatic or available six-speed manual gearbox, that ups the output to 375 ponies and, according to Dodge, can deliver sub-six-second zero-to-60 mph times. At the top end is the Street and Racing Technology SRT8 that comes with a 425-horsepower 6.1-liter V8, 20-inch wheels, tighter suspension and an SRT-specific stability-control system that helps keep the car pointed in the right direction and its over-exuberant drivers out of trouble.

The 6.1 is backed by a five-speed automatic transmission or optional six-speed manual that’s actually shared with the Dodge Viper. New for 2010 is the Super Track Pack option for the SRT8 that reduces the interference from stability control system, thereby allowing a little more driver interaction. It also includes stickier rubber, self-leveling shocks, bigger rear-stabilizer bar, different final-drive ratio and high-performance brake linings. With the full Challenger lineup now on the road, it has established a beachhead to do battle with its arch rival, the reconstituted 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. Each will attempt to dethrone the Ford Mustang for top spot in the newly revived Ponycar wars, but all will give fans a reason to rejoice.
