The system includes features that enable you to set itineraries, search for certain types of points of interest along your route, store special destinations, obtain traffic informaton en route, etc. The system indicates the vehicle’s current location, and shows part or all of the route to your destination, depending on the settings you have made. If at any time you should decide to deviate from the route originally set by the system, a new route to the destination will automatically be calculated.

By enabling you to reach your destination quickly and by the most direct route, Volvo’s navigation system also helps contribute to improving the environment.

With a choice of 140bhp or 170bhp, the normally aspirated 2.4-litre engine starts the Volvo S80 range with a comfortable and refined power delivery and some of the lowest CO2 emissions of the range. The 2.0T, 2.5T and T6 engines are all turbocharged petrol engines using variable valve timing – on the inlet side on normally aspirated 2.4 engines, the exhaust side for the 2.0T, and both inlet and exhaust sides for the 2.5T and T6. The 180bhp 2.0T engine joined the new S80 range for the 2004 model year at the same time as the 210bhp 2.5T replaced the former 200bhp 2.4T. Both engines offer surprisingly quick (low pressure) turbo power with generous torque figures at low engine speeds making them capable of reaching 62mph 9.1 and 7.3 seconds, respectively, yet still deliver good fuel economy of just over 30mpg on the Combined cycle.

The T6, clearly the most powerful engine in the Volvo S80 range and available in both SE Lux and Executive variants, delivers outstanding, smooth performance using responsive dual turbochargers and variable inlet and exhaust valve timing to deliver maximum torque of 380 Nm from as low as 1800rpm, as well as meeting the strict European 2005 emission requirements. The D5 is the first diesel car engine Volvo has produced in-house. It is available in the S80 range in both SE Lux and Executive models and offers refined performance with low fuel consumption of up to 43.5mpg on the Combined cycle. It has 163bhp of power with 340 Nm of torque from just 1,750rpm more than the 320Nm of torque offered by the 210bhp, 2.5T petrol engine. It has instantly proved extremely popular and represents over 81 per cent of S80 sales in the UK. Volvo’s D5 engine is a turbocharged diesel made of lightweight aluminium using the latest variable nozzle turbine with movable guide vanes for optimum flow conditions for high turbine efficiency at all engines speeds.

A fast-acting Exhaust Gas Recirculation system increases engine efficiency and reduces Nox emissions while retaining high fuel efficiency, all combined with second generation common rail direct fuel injection technology that electronically controls fuel and injection timing. Fuel is injected directly into the cylinders under high pressure – up to 1600bar. The result is extremely finely atomised fuel, ensuring efficient combustion while minimising emissions of nitrogen oxides (Nox) and particulates. All five-cylinder engines (petrol, diesel engine and Bi-Fuel) are available as SE Lux models, while the Executive model is offered with just the six-cylinder T6 and the D5, fitted with Geartronic transmission as standard (respectively). The Volvo S80 has been designed for a harmonious balance between response and comfort. Better still, Volvo’s advanced active ‘Four-C’ (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) chassis. This is the same chassis concept used in Volvo’s high- performance, AWD S60 R and V70 R, and has now been adapted for the front- wheel drive S80 offering the driver the choice of ‘Comfort’ and ‘Sport’ chassis settings.

The SRS system is indicated by the “SRS” embossed on the steering wheel pad and above the glove compartment, and by decals on both sun visors and on the far right side of the dash. The airbags are folded and located in the steering wheel hub and above the glove compartment. They are designed to deploy during certain frontal or front-angular collisions, impacts, or decelerations, depending on the crash severity, angle, speed and object impacted. The airbags may also deploy in certain non-frontal collisions where rapid deceleration occurs.

The airbag system includes gas generators (1) surrounded by the airbags (2) and front seat belt tensioners for both of the front seats (4). To deploy the system, the sensor (3) activates the gas generators causing the airbags to be inflated with nitrogen gas. As the movement of the seats’ occupants compresses the airbags, some of the gas is expelled at a controlled rate to provide better cushioning. Both seat belt tensioners also deploy, minimizing any seat belt slack.

A self-diagnostic system incorporated in the sensor monitors the SRS, SIPS and IC-system. This system does not, however, monitor the Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) airbags. If a fault is detected, the warning light will illuminate. The light is included in the warning/indicator light cluster in the instrument panel. Normally, the SRS warning lamp should light up when the ignition key is turned to positions I, II or III and should go out after 7 seconds or when the engine is started. Check that this light is functioning properly every time the car is started.

The following items are monitored by the self-diagnostic system:
· Sensor unit
· SRS wiring
· Inflators

There is no maintenance to perform on the SRS yourself. The month and year shown on the decal on the door pillar indicate when you should contact your Volvo retailer for specific servicing or replacement of airbags and seatbelt tensioners. This service must be performed by an authorized Volvo retailer.

DiCE is equipped with four status LEDs (Light Emission Diode) that indicate the status of the software, the USB and Bluetooth communication and the interface to the car. At one end of the unit, there is a DC input where a battery cable or adapter (12 V) can be connected. The adapter is used when upgrading and troubleshooting the DiCE. In the other end of the unit there is a removable cover that could be removed by turning the screw on the cover, se picture below. In order to communicate with DiCE wirelessly, the VIDA client must also be equipped with Bluetooth. Supported adapter for DiCE is Ezurios USB-to-Bluetooth-adapter, which is connected via the computer’s USB port. When upgrading DiCE, a USB cable must be used. DiCE supports USB 2.0.

2.2 Uninstall built-in Bluetooth If you have built-in Bluetooth in your PC or Toughbook it has to be uninstalled first. For more information, contact your Sales Company regarding Panasonic 28 or 29. Otherwise contact your retailer.

2.3 Before installation – VIDA Certification Agent
Before installing DICE or Bluetooth the VIDA Certification Agent program should be run. This rogram checks that the computer meets the required specifications for VIDA All-in-one. To run VIDA Certification Agent you must be logged in as administrator. VIDA Certification Agent reports if the specifications are met, gives warnings for anything between the minimum and recommended specification and an error message for anything that does not meet the specifications. Faults must be remedied or computers changed before installation, because VIDA All-in-one cannot be installed on a computer which does not meet the specifications. The VIDA Certification Agent can be downloaded from TIE. The program can also be obtained from the local sales company.

VIDA Certification Agent is also run automatically as a part of the VIDA installation program. By running the program before installation it is easier to determine whether the computer can be used for VIDA or not.

2.4 Installation and configuration of Bluetooth software and DiCE software VIDA All-in-one has to be correctly installed before starting installation of DiCE and software for Bluetooth. Installation of software for DiCE and Bluetooth is carried out from a VIDA DVD. Follow the instructions carefully. NOTE! Do not insert the Bluetooth USB adapter until the installation program requests it. NOTE! Close all other programmes before starting.

Complete the installation
The icon for Bluetooth, shown in the status bar, changes color from red on blue to white on blue as illustrated in the picture. The Bluetooth icon will be blue on white as long as the Bluetooth interface is active. NOTE! It is very important that the icon changes color to white on blue before next step. The color change might take several minutes. Some PC configurations e.g. Ford Global Client need to be reboted before this icon is
shown. Installation of USB driver for DiCE For each new or additional DiCE unit that is going to be used in VIDA, the USB driver must be
installed separately. This is done automatically in Windows when the DiCE unit is inserted into an USB port. Carry out the instructions below.

Cars equipped with SRS/SIPS (Airbag)
WARNING! Extra care must be taken when working on cars equipped with SRS/SIPS air bags. This is important to prevent:
1. Personal injury
2. Damage to or malfunction of the SRS/SIPS system. Work on the SRS/SIPS systems or related components must always be carried out by an authorised Volvo workshop. Is the car equipped with SRS (supplemental restraint system)? Cars equipped with a driver’s airbag have the letters “SRS” imprinted on the centre panel of the steering wheel. Cars equipped with driver’s and passenger airbags are marked with “SRS” on both the steering wheel centre panel and also on the dashboard close to the airbag. If the car is equipped with SIPS (side impact protection system) a “SIPS” decal is marked on both the front seats.

Cars equipped with inflatable curtains have the marking “SRS” on one of the panels along the posts on the inside of the car. Cars equipped with SRS (supplemental restraint system) also have a “SRS” decal on the front windscreen. Do not damage the SRS wiring! Do not trap, fray, pierce or damage the SRS wiring. SRS wiring has orange casing and/or is plaited. Steering and front suspension The contact reel in the SRS system can easily be damaged when working on the steering wheel, steering shaft or steering gear. Refer to the SRS (supplemental restraint system). Service Manual or service instructions in VIDA for information on carrying out such work. This is to prevent damage. SRS warning lamp. If the SRS warning lamp lights after repairs have been carried out, take the car to an authorised Volvo cars workshop. SRS collision sensor control module Tow hitch wiring, 7/4-pin NOTE! The relay and fuses are not included in the kit.

Installing the tow hitch connector
– Install the tow hitch connector using the four screws and nuts. Tighten

– Route the cable harness to the right along the front edge of the tow hitch member The cable harness is routed the same way regardless of the type of tow hitch

– Secure the cable harness using a tie strap on each side of the brackets for the tow hitch member.
NOTE! If the cable harness is stretched too far it may be worn through by the lower edge of the bumper. Ensure that the cable harness forms a small loop around the lower edge of the bumper as illustrated in illustration B.

The passenger compartment held its shape extremely well in the offset crash test. The brake pedal moved rearwards by 9 mm. The throttle pedal moved upwards 9 mm. The steering wheel hub moved 29mm forward, 5mm downward and 7 mm sideways. The front (“A”) pillar moved 3 mm rearwards. All doors remained closed during the crash. After the crash all doors could be opened with normal
effort. The airbag cushioned the head of the driver and contact was stable. There were no knee hazards. The passenger’s head was cushioned by the airbag.

SIDE IMPACT CRASH TEST (v4.2) Body region scores out of 4 points each: Head 4 pts, chest 4 pts, abdomen 4 pts, pelvis 4 pts. The vehicle was eligible for an optional pole impact test, since it had head-protecting side airbags and it was within reach of a 5 star rating. The chosen power train for the Volvo XC60 Concept is a six-cylinder, 3.2-litre bio-ethanol engine with All Wheel Drive, offering dynamic performance in the form of 265 horsepower and 251 lb/ft (340 Nm) of torque – with emissions of fossil carbon dioxide dropping by up to 80 percent when driving, compared with the same engine running only on gasoline.
