A new hobby. A new tradition. A new member of the family. A new adventure every days. Subaru Forester vehicles are designed and equipped to keep you you go, and to inspire you to get more opportunities to embrace life. It all starts with The remainder of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Standard on all Subaru, they gives you stability and control to drive where you want when you want, anytime with the utmost confidence. This balance is reconciled with the reassurance of his protected by the award-winning safety.

By combining the balance and road adhesion of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with the stability of the SUBARU BOXER engine, Subaru builds more than cars—we build confidence. Confidence that can help you enjoy getting there as much as being there. And it can help you feel the freedom to live more of the life you love. Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive In any season or condition, confidence behind the wheel comes from one place—where your tire meets the road. Wet or dry. Rough or smooth. A sure grip of the road can give you the control to step around danger. The assurance to add more destinations. The engagement to delight in every strip of asphalt. Subaru has spent nearly 40 years developing a system for traction and control that employs an almost perfectly symmetrical layout to maximize the power that goes to the wheels, and to create balance and stability that keep you confidently in control.

Better Balance Every Subaru is built for AWD from the ground up. Each one features a longitudinally mounted engine that feeds power to the all-wheel drive system in a straight line. Which results in a balanced drivetrain with almost total side-to-side symmetry that is free of the extra components some other systems need to route power. This symmetry and balance means stability that help make driving your Subaru safer and agility that makes it more fun. Quicker Response There are only four small patches of rubber that keep you in control of your vehicle. The more your tires are engaged, the more control you have. Subaru Symmetrical AWD keeps power routed to all four tires all the time, so it doesn’t have to react to slippage that has already occurred. Rather, it keeps your tires as fully engaged with the road as possible.

Efficient Design Because some systems lack the simplicity of Subaru Symmetrical AWD, they not only sacrifice efficiency, but also can incur more wear and tear. Subaru routes power directly from the engine to all four wheels to keep components—and frictional power losses—to a minimum. All while maximizing the seamless feeling of traction whenever you need it. Horizontally Opposed Design The pistons move in 180-degree opposition to each other on a horizontal plane, so each naturally cancels out the vibration of the piston opposite it.

Durable Construction The engine’s flat design is inherently rigid, and reduces the amount of vibration that “V” or inline engines—with more pright pistons—are subjected to during operation. Lower Center of Gravity The flatter profile and perfectly symmetrical design of the engine block, and the fact that it sits lower in the chassis make the overall vehicle more stably balanced and resistant to side-to-side motion than other designs. Smoother Operation Step on the accelerator and the revs come on smooth. While there’s plenty of power when you need it, it never compromises your comfort or control.

Greater Agility The vehicle responds more quickly to changes in direction, which gives a feeling of tightness in turns. And it’s less likely to become unstable during maneuvers, giving you an increased feeling of being in control at all times. Subaru Boxer Engine We think about engines a little differently. We believe an engine should deliver both power and control. It should conquer the open road and handle a parking lot just as well. That’s why every Subaru is powered by the SUBARU BOXER® engine. Its horizontally opposed design and symmetrical layout provide plenty of smooth acceleration, but also give drivers balance and stability that set it apart from engines with a “V” or inline configuration. It’s an insightful difference that has the power to make driving more engaging.

Performance and Handling Sometimes the best adventures come from great planning. Sometimes they just happen. With the reliable performance and confidence-inspiring handling of the Forester, you’ll be ready to take on more of life’s spontaneous opportunities. To power you through the day, choose from the smooth and efficient 170-horsepower 2.5X, or the 2.5XT and its 224-horsepower, turbocharged punch. And with SPORTSHIFT, you can control how the available automatic transmission shifts gears for greater involvement and access to power when you need it. Responsive Suspension The best thing about driving an SUV like the Forester? It doesn’t drive like an SUV. Its 4-wheel independent suspension keeps you comfortable, yet connected to the road. The double-wishbone rear suspension helps achieve this remarkably stable and responsive driving experience by soaking up bumps without upsetting the chassis. While up to 8.9 inches of ground clearance enhance your confidence to explore and discover more.

Flexible Interior You’ve got a lot on your plate from day to day. But, because the Forester has the flexible space and features to help handle the multitasking for you, your to-do list can become your “love-to-do” list. In the cargo area, there are plenty of features, like cargo and grocery bag hooks that keep items from spilling out during driving. Also, all passengers will be able to keep more items easily within reach with features like the retractable rear tray,1 and conveniently located cup holders and cargo compartments up front. And a large rear gate opening makes loading and unloading a breeze—no matter what you’re hauling that day. The Subaru Forester is designed to fit intelligently into your life. So, we’ve worked to maximize its usefulness wherever possible. Even the design of the rear suspension helps open the large cargo area, so you can make the most of up to 68.3 cubic feet of space. To further enable you to handle your daily tasks, the 60/40 folding rear seat easily and conveniently expands the cargo area to fit large objects—even while carrying passengers.

Comfort Features Settle into the available 10-way power driver’s seat, and you’ll find yourself in a spacious cabin, surrounded by amenities designed for you and your passengers’ convenience and comfort. Those in the rear are sure to appreciate the reclining rear seats1, and everyone will enjoy the sunshine and fresh air flowing in from the oversized panoramic moonroof.1 Add in custom temperature settings from the available automatic climate control system, and your only problem may be getting your passengers to leave.

Subaru Active and Passive Safety When it comes to feeling confident, nothing is more important than feeling safe. That’s why Subaru places safety as one of our highest priorities, and why we think about safety in 360 degrees. First, we engineer the Forester with exceptional control and advanced accident-avoidance technologies to help keep accidents from happening in the first place. Then, we build it with protection technologies that have made it a Top Safety Pick,2 2007–2009. The end result is a car that—in a worst-case scenario—is one of your best possible bets.

Exceptional Control Safety begins with avoidance. The traction and balance of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and the stability of the SUBARU BOXER® engine provide you with the outstanding control you need to react to hazards. Every Forester also comes standard with VDC electronic stability control, which can detect a loss of control and intervene to help keep you on your intended path. Protected on the Inside Front, front-side and side-curtain airbags3—standard on every Forester—surround outboard occupants in the event of a crash to further help prevent injury. To maximize their effectiveness, the advanced system found on the Forester uses an array of sensors, including a rollover sensor, to ensure the airbags are deployed in the best way possible.

Protected from the Outside During an impact, nothing is more crucial for the safety of all occupants than maintaining cabin integrity. Our frame design, the Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame, is designed to be exceptionally strong for maximum resistance to impact energy. What’s more, its unique configuration helps divert that energy away from occupants. Stopping Power Powerful and reliable vented disc brakes are teamed with advanced technology to help you stop short of danger. Antilock brakes help make sure you don’t lose traction, and the advanced Brake Assist system helps ensure maximum pressure is applied to the brakes as quickly as possible in an emergency situation.

The second generation Forester recently launched by Subaru is ready to build on popularity of the old model by offering a complete set of improvements. Mechanical changes include the installation of a larger displacement (2.0 to 2.5 liters L) for more Performance chassis and suspension complete changes (on the wheel and tire update specifications) for better treatment and handling and increased braking capacity. Subaru says it has achieved significant increased rigidity of the new Forester improving resilience to shocks, which NVH (Noise, vibration and harshness levels) and contribute to improved handling and agility. Praiseworthy (Seen the increased structural strength), new Forester is an average five kilograms lighter over the entire range, with some models up to 25 kg less.

Aluminium is now used for things such as the hood, roof rails and bumper beam. While the new Forester retains a family resemblance to its predecessor, the body an update on the developments in wave smooth lines and reduced drag. The Forester has always been known as a very practical and functional vehicle and Subaru much attention to the interior in a new model. There is more space, easier entry and exit Occupant (it was all right, and a large POS), new tools, new versions completed and access is improved. Equipment levels were increased unprecedented levels for this class, even with x base model with AWD, an anti-lock system ABS with EBD, dual airbags air air conditioning, cruise control, CD player, electric windows windows and mirrors, remote central locking, capital, the Hill Holder (manual only) and a Viscous limited slip differential. XS models add alloy wheels, a battery of six in- “Air” dash CD, climate control, fog lights enlightenment and self-leveling rear suspension. The XS Luxury Pack option offers dual front side airbags, leather interior, sunroof and Premium Silver paint on the bumper and lower panels, and the body itself. Given that the new Forester offers The prices are very competitive.

Manual models $ 30,990 to start the XS priced at $ 34,990 and $ 37 990 with the option pack. Automatic transmission adds $ 2,000 to all models. front passenger are comfortably seated in the Forester, with armrests and leg construction and Head room. The new model has extra height and front and aft adjustments for the driver’s seat, and 40 mm height adjustable steering wheel. Although the whole body (and thus total length of the cab) is the same, Subaru actions in the session and drafting To find an extra few millimeters of the leg and foot room for rear passengers. Space in the rear is a bit tightly against the Honda CR-V is the thrower in this class, but improving Forester is nevertheless welcome. As before, the execution of the instrument and control is simple and it’s now even easier to use. For example, the sound is a model ease of use – some officials from other would do well to copy. Throughout the cabin there are changes in improving the efficiency and convenience. Vision improved in all directions with re-shape pillars, windows and tailgate, plus an increased swept area and rear wipers.

While the new Forester is not either the CR-V or Nissan X-trail on pure performance, the transition to a 2.5-liter engine significantly reduces the acceleration time Compared with the previous model 2.0 liter. couple has benefited, with the new Forester posting better traction in the higher gears. This equates to lower gear change in the manual versions, in turn, benefit from the fuel. But one aspect of the new Forester performance (at least in the manual test vehicle) it was not so nice is that the supply current the wheels do not seem as smooth or quiet as the old model. Furthermore, some of the transmission game became evident when accelerating from a leak throttle in the higher gears. And improving on-road use, the new Forester has been improved off-road capability with its ground clearance, wider track and body and suspension stiffness.

SUMMARY: Since its release in 1997, Subaru Forester has enjoyed a strong popularity is based on the excellent reliability and quality of construction, are comfortable and can road driving, and higher off-road capabilities (particularly the manual models) compared to others in its segment. Now faced with increasing competition, Subaru has raised the bar even higher. The new Forester offers not only improvements in performance, handling and braking, it is also safer, stronger and better equipped. The new Forester is still not functioning as a rate of the glamorous car segment, but it is more than a match for most of its competitors other aspects.

The 2.2L engine designation is the sixth digit of the vehicle identification number (VIN). It is important to always first identify the engine before beginning diagnosis and servicing. Body type and transmission type, as well as the model year, are also information pertinent to engine diagnosis and servicing. This information is available from the VIN and the appropriate service manual.

The engine serial number is located on the machined boss on the left side of the clutch housing. The 2.2L engine designation is EJ22. Piston and bearing dimension information is stamped on a machined surface where the crankcase halves meet. The 2.2L SOHC four valves per cylinder engine is an addition to the existing Subaru “Boxer” design. The horizontally opposed, four stroke, four cylinder, liquid cooled, gasoline engine has aluminum alloy block and heads. It uses a normally aspirated or turbocharged MPI system. The cylinder liners are of a cast iron dry type design.

Cylinder Heads The 2.2L engine uses a crossflow cylinder head design similar to the 1800cc OHC engine. Better breathing is provided by the two intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder which improves the intake and exhaust flow. Fine-tuned high velocity intake and exhaust ports are used. The dual intake and exhaust ports are siamesed to further improve intake and exhaust flow. The 2.2L engine uses a compact pentroof combustion chamber versus the bath-tub design of the 1800cc/2700cc Subaru engines. It has a centrally located spark plug which provides the quickest, most efficient combustion with a uniform flame front from the plug to the top of the piston. This, combined with the 30 degree valve angle compliments the pentroof combustion chamber shape optimizing low and medium speed torque. The cylinder heads are interchangeable left to right.

The 2.2L turbocharged engine cylinder heads have been modified to withstand increased internal combustion pressures. The coolant passages have been changed to match the closed deck design of the crankcase. These heads are not interchangeable from side to side nor with the N/A engine cylinder heads. There are three holes in the right cylinder head for the turbo oil supply, oil return, and coolant return. The intake valves and seats have been reduced to 27mm for the turbo engine only. The valve seat material for both the intake and the exhaust valves has been changed to increase hardness to provide a greater resistance to wear. The valve train uses a single valve spring system versus the dual spring system of the 1800cc engine. The intake valves are larger than the exhaust alves. The valve seal color determines location:

Rocker Shaft Assembly intake seals are black, exhaust seals are brown. The camshaft bearing journals are located in the cylinder head. This design improves camshaft support. The left camshaft is longer than the right camshaft to properly align the cam belt sprockets due to cylinder head offset. A camshaft support bolts to the front of the left cylinder head to support the camshaft. A retaining plate, with oil seal, is attached to the rear of the left cylinder head. The rear of the right cylinder head has a cover plate which also serves as a thrust plate.

A camshaft support has been added to the right side of the turbocharged engine to supply oil to the turbo and return coolant from the turbo. Oil and water separation is provided by an o-ring. The camshaft has a different profile designed to match the operating characteristics of the turbo engine. The rocker shaft assembly bolts to the cylinder head. There are eight bolts through the three cast iron supports. The intake valves have individual rocker arms, while a siamese rocker arm is used for each two exhaust valves. The all aluminum rocker arms have a sintered metal slipper as the cam contact. A pressed lead aluminum bushing is used for each rocker arm bearing surface. The position of the spring washers on the steel rocker shaft provide proper rocker alignment and spacing. These spring washers must be returned to their original position. The rocker shaft is part of the oiling system providing oil flow to the rocker bearing surfaces and HLAs. Relief valves at both ends of the rocker shafts maintain stable oil pressure to the HLAs. Note: The roller rocker cam follower system that was introduced on the 1.8L Impreza engines, is installed on all 1995 model year and later 2.2 liter engines. The roller assemblies are not serviceable separately, but the rocker arms may be serviced as individual units.

BEFORE INSTALLING THIS PRODUCT:
• Make sure to follow all the vehicle specific instructions carefully or damage to the product can result.
• Make sure that the TBC-1 wire harness does not interfere with any moving parts under the hood. Failure to do so may result in shorts.
• Make sure to follow the vacuum hose connections carefully or serious damage to your engine could result.
• Make sure that you remove the two orange caps and one red cap from the solenoid manifold before installing.
• If your vehicle is not listed in this manual please call our customer service department for specific instructions for your vehicle.
• BEFORE INSTALLING read entire manual and verify that the kit contains all the parts necessary for installation. See the TBC-1 Parts List table in the back of this manual for the list of materials provided in this kit. Disconnect the Negative cable of the battery BEFORE proceeding with installation. Failure to do so may result in severe damage to the unit or the engine.WORLD electronics is NOT responsible for any damages to the
engine, vehicle or TBC-1, caused by an installation error. Installation of this product should only be performed by an experienced installer. Installation requires many skills, please refer installation to a qualified, experienced installer.

INSTALLING THE TBC-1 KIT:
1. Disconnect the Negative cable from the battery. *NOTE: When the negative battery cable is disconnected, you may erase data in your audio or navigation components. Please be sure to write down all security parameters before disconnecting the battery.
2. Locate the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) by looking up your vehicle in the Vehicle Specific Wiring and Vacuum Hose Connection Guide starting on Page 51 and finding the letter that represents the location in the ECU Location Drawing on Page 49.
3. Locate a suitable location through the firewall to route the wire harness (the hole must be at least –” in diameter to accommodate the harness connectors. See the diagram below regarding which wires are routed through the firewall. If an existing hole is not found, then a hole must be drilled through the firewall with a 5/8” drill bit. Use the supplied rubber grommet (part number WE-6000.0009) and route the wires through the grommet and hole. Make sure that a grommet (existing or supplied) is used when routing the harness through the firewall or shorts can occur as shown in figure below. Failure to abide by this precaution may cause a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.

4. Using the Vehicle Specific ECU and Vacuum Hose Connection Guide (see page 51), locate your vehicle model and year. Following the guide, connect the TBC-1 harness to the ECU according to the features desired. *NOTE: you only need to connect the wires that are needed for the features you intend to use. See the chart below to determine the connections that are required to utilize desired features. Refer also to the General Wiring Diagram on the next page.

5. Wrap all connections with electrical tape.
6. Mount the Solenoid under the hood, near the wastegate on the firewall or inner fender. The solenoids are mounted using the solenoid mounting hardware (part WORLD electronics Total Boost Control (TBC-1) Customer Service: 800-523-0427 Page 46 of 63.

7. Mount the Pressure Sensor under the hood away from high heat but close to the intake manifold of the engine using the supplied strap bracket (part number WE-6000.0013). Mount all TBC engine compartment components (pressure sensor and solenoid) away from excessive heat. Failure to do so can cause damage to the components and render the unit inoperative. Route all wiring away from excessive heat. Failure to do so can cause the wire to melt rendering the unit inoperative.
8. Connect the wire harness connectors to the Pressure Sensor and the Solenoid (the harness connectors are opposite so that the wrong connector cannot be used). Connect the ring tongue terminal from the Pressure Sensor connector to a suitable screw for grounding to the vehicle chassis. (Make sure this is a good ground connection) NOTE: Make sure the connectors go together correctly and “snap” for a good connection.
9. Disconnect the existing vacuum hose/hoses from the wastegate actuator to the existing wastegate solenoid valve or VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve). Plug up the port going to the wastegate actuator on the existing solenoid valve (see your specific vacuum hose diagram in the Vehicle Specific Wiring and Vacuum Hose Connection Guide).
10. Connect the vacuum hoses to the Solenoid and the Pressure Sensor according the Vehicle Specific Wiring and Vacuum Hose Connections Guide starting on Page 11. If your vehicle turbo system has been modified (i.e. after-market components added) please see the General Vacuum Hose drawings for single and dual port wastegate types. NOTE: Make sure to place the supplied hose clamps (part number WE- 6000.0016) on every vacuum hose connection….

This document shows a set of photographs I install 1999 Subaru Power Steering Rack in my 1973 Datsun 240Z. The car has been converted to 1995 LT1 with transmission WC T5 and I had the original pump from the donor car (Caprice 9C1), so I did. Management feels similar to the higher end of the modern sports car. It is not easy, but it has adequate road feel. Carrier Subaru, I seem to have a higher ratio than the stock Datsun, so the procedure is faster than it was.

I picked up from the engine 1 / 2 “, so that the main pulley / damper should clear stand on the plumbing. This was not the only solution, but it is the cheapest and had other benefits, improved drive line angles. I did not take pictures of the failure of the new board, but I Solid Works drawings, if someone wants it. It is a cross-member I used is from the 280Z. I had to reduce the clear opening of the valve body and adjust the rack mounts to accept a different shape. After the pieces I welded reinforcements at the bottom and upper part, where he cut funding and strengthening the mountain as a tower will also have to be.
