Engine coolant temperature gauge The gauge indicates the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature will vary with the outside air temperature and driving conditions. Fuel gauge The gauge indicates the APPROXIMATE fuel level in the tank. The gauge may move slightly during braking, turning, acceleration, or going up or downhill. The gauge needle is designed to hold its position when the ignition key is turned ‘‘OFF’’.

The indicator light comes on when the amount of fuel in the tank is getting low. Refuel as soon as it is convenient, preferably before the gauge reaches ‘‘E’’. There should be a small reserve of fuel in the tank when the fuel gauge needle reaches ‘‘E’’.

Brake pad wear warning The disc brake pads have audible wear warnings. When a brake pad requires replacement, it will make a high pitched scraping sound when the vehicle is in motion whether or not the brake pedal is depressed. Have the brakes checked as soon as possible if the warning sound is heard.

If this light comes on while the Nissan engine is running, it may indicate there is something wrong with the anti-lock portion of the brake system. Have the system checked by your NISSAN dealer.

If an abnormality occurs in the system, the anti-lock function will cease but the regular braking system will continue to operate normally. Key reminder chime The chime will sound if the driver side door is opened while the key is left in the ignition switch. Remove the key and take it with you when leaving the vehicle.

Light reminder chime A chime will sound when the driver side door is opened if the light switch is turned on
(ignition switch is turned off). Turn the light switch off when you leave the vehicle.

A CHECK TIRE PRESSURE warning message will appear in the dot matrix liquid crystal display 01 and the TPMS light will illuminate when one or more tires are low on pressure and air is needed. After tire pressures are adjusted, drive the Nissan Leaf at speeds above 16 MPH (25km/h) and the warning and indicator light will disappear.

When the low tire pressure warning light flashes for approximately 1 minute and then remains on, the TPMS is not functioning properly. Have the system checked by NISSAN LEAF certified dealer.

The tire pressure rises and falls depending on the heat caused by the Nissan Leaf operation and the outside temperature. Low outside temperature can lower the temperature of the air inside the tire, which can cause a lower tire inflation pressure. This may cause the low tire pressure warning light to illuminate. If the warning light illuminates in low ambient temperature, check the tire pressure in all four tires.

Power Meter The Power Meter displays the traction motor power consumption and the regenerative power supplied to the Li-ion battery. When the battery is charged, power is generated by the regenerative brake system and the central dot moves to the left.

When the battery discharges and power is provided to the motor the central dot moves to the right. The number of circles will increase or decrease depending on Li-ion battery conditions (motor output is limited if the Li-ion battery temperature is too high or too low or the Li-ion battery level is low).

Electric Vehicle (EV) System Warning Light The warning light will illuminate if there is a malfunction in the following systems: • Traction motor and inverter system • Charge port or on-board charger • Li-ion battery system • Cooling system • Shift control system • Emergency shut off system is activated. If the warning light illuminates, contact a NISSAN certified LEAF dealer.

If you have never towed a trailer before, be aware that it does take getting used to. To begin with, towing noticeably affects your vehicle’s performance: It will not accelerate as quickly — an important point to keep in mind when merging onto a highway. It will not stop as quickly. Leave more room than usual between you and the traffic ahead, and brake sooner when coming to a stop.

Abrupt maneuvering can unbalance the load and reduce the handling stability of your tow vehicle. Plan ahead and make lane changes and turns smoothly. If possible, before you actually hit the open road, practice towing in a large uncrowded area such as a stadium or shopping center parking lot. Become especially familiar with backing up a trailer — the maneuver many people find most difficult.

REDUCE SPEED
Drive your vehicle at a moderate speed, and remember to reduce your speed in unsafe or less-than-ideal road conditions or weather. The tendency for a trailer to sway increases with speed, and such swaying can result in a loss of control.

BRAKE SOONER
The combination of your tow vehicle and trailer obviously requires a greater distance to stop. A good rule of thumb to remember is that for each 10 mph of speed, allow yourself one tow vehicle and trailer length of distance between the front of your vehicle and the vehicle ahead. When braking, use firm but gradual pressure on the pedal rather than panic braking. Applying the brakes abruptly or with too much force can cause the trailer to skid or jackknife at its point of attachment with the vehicle. This, in turn, can throw the tow vehicle out of control. If equipped with an electric trailer brake controller, follow the recommended operational instructions.

PASS CAREFULLY
As mentioned in the introduction to this section, because of the added weight of the trailer, acceleration capability is reduced and you will require a longer distance to pass another vehicle. Be certain you have sufficient time and space to pass safely. Obviously, never attempt passing on hills or when going around curves.

CORNER MORE SLOWLY
Know your vehicle and trailer capabilities. Entering a sharp corner too quickly or abruptly can “crack the whip,” whereby the trailer can actually pull the tow vehicle off the road. Therefore, when approaching a relatively sharp corner, begin braking sooner than you would when not towing. Do your braking in a straight line prior to the corner, and turn smoothly into it. In addition, remember to make a wider turn than normal to ensure that the trailer safely clears the inside of the turn. When towing a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer, do not make sharp turns while driving or backing as the trailer may contact the vehicle and cause damage to both the trailer and…

You have a S13,14,15 with a SR20DE and its time for some more oomph! So you have though about slapping a hairdryer…I mean turbo on it, and your looking for a how to. If that sounds like you, then you have downloaded the right PDF! Welcome to my humble guide to slapping a turbo on a SR20DE, with minor support mods to get it going. Now if your looking for a jaw dropping number on a Dyno sheet, then buy a SR20DET. With all the mods detailed in this guide you can expect up to 160Kw at the wheels, and best of all it will be reliable, I know two people who have done it, and both cars have had no problems for years.

This guide details how I turbocharged my Nissan Silvia. I went for the most cost effective way of doing it and spent months gathering parts for as cheap as possible. My entire conversion cost just over NZ$2000, where a turbo engine would cost $4000, which doesn’t even include Labour! Here you will find a list of parts needed to convert your SR20DE to a boosting beast. Please note that this guide does not cover ECU change! I am running a standard DE ECU! First we will start off with the bare essentials, you can’t go without these:

Garrett T28 Turbo with internal wastegate
Exhaust manifold
Dump pipe
Exhaust front pipe (DE exhaust doesn’t bolt up)
Intercooler and piping
Adaptor for mounting intercooler piping to turbo
SR20DET fuel injectors (no need for fuel pump as DE and DET are the same)
Oil lines (feed from oil filter sandwich plate, return to sump)
Blow off valve
gaskets (engine-manifold, manifold-turbo, turbo-dump pipe, dump pipe-front pipe)
Boost controller
Vaccuum hose – lots of it
Boost gauge

Optional Parts:
* Front Mount Intercooler kit
* Adjustable fuel pressure regulator (since I am running the DE ECU)
* Apexi SAFC II (also due to DE ECU)
* Battery cable (to extend positive lead due to battery relocation for front mount)

Intake piping The intake piping removal is easy peasy. Just undo the hose clamps all the way from the Throttle body to the air filter and pull the whole lot out. Intake Manifold and fuel Rail. This part sucks, really. This will really make you hate Nissan for giving you such a limited amount of space to work in, but that’s all good because the “psssh” you’ll hear when changing gear will make it all worth it.

First, remove the Throttle Body (TB), its held in place with 4 large Allen Screws. Disconnect the Throttle cable and pull the TB away from the manifold…do not remove the hoses connected to the TB, unless you want to drain your radiator and guess where all the hoses go 3 weeks from now. Removal of the intake manifold is easy if you know where to find all the bolts, refer to the workshop manual. Once the manifold is loose, just pull it away slightly so you can get to the fuel rail.

Exhaust The bolts on the exhaust gets hot and rusty, I recommend spraying some WD40 on all the bolts around the manifold, CAT etc the night before. Undo the bolts that connects the manifold to the front pipe of the exhaust, there are 3 bolts to undo. Once the manifold is free from the rest of the exhaust system, undo the bolts that hold the manifold to the engine. Don’t forget to remove the oxygen sensor and keep it in a safe place. Next, remove the front pipe from the exhaust by undoing the bolts around the front of the CAT.

Oil Feed Line The Oil Feed line can be taken from the Oil Pressure Sending unit. Its located by the oil filter. I did mine using a Oil Filter Sandwich plate (The kind that allows the connection of a oil pressure gauge etc) and just ran a hose to the turbo, works a treat. I used ¼” copper hose and brass fitting for the oil feed.

Drain the engine oil, remove the oil filter (what a pain in the ass), connect the copper/braided hose to the sandwich plate. Install the sandwich plate to the engine so the hose sit on the bottom (not enough space anywhere else) Then install the oil filter on top of the plate. Run the oil line behind the engine towards the exhaust side.

Oil Return Line This part is by far the hardest and most nerve wrecking. Basically because your about to drill a nice hold in the side of your engine… sounds fun doesn’t it? The arrow points out the location for drilling the hole for the oil drain. Just drill a nice hole big enough to not restrict the oil flow from the turbo. Tap it and install a hose connector in the hole.

The Gemini 5002 and 5003 are remote controlled alarm units with built-in central door locking adapters, ultrasonic and total closure facility for selected vehicles. The 5002 and 5003 are complete with cryptographic coded transmitters complete with Gemini Card which has an alphanumeric code printed on it to enable you to get a replacement at any time. The units offer panic facility. The system also includes passive arming and provides outlets for supplementary sirens and the vehicle hazard lights circuit. There is also the optional audible signalling for arming and disarming. (The 5003 incorporates its own internal battery).

The alarms offer the following protections: The passenger compartment via pin switches and voltage drop sensing (can be isolated). Boot and bonnet by pin switches. Radio cassette and other accessories by “Accessory Loop” (can be isolated) The engine immobilisation is obtained by the interruption of starter crank wire at the back of the ignition switch.

The alarms also have the following abilities: The control of additional sirens and negatively controlled horns. Can be connected to microwave, vibration and anti-lifting sensors. Can be connected to window closures and sunroof closures providing this operation DOES work off the drivers door key. The sensors can be isolated through the transmitter via R.S.D. function. A.C.R. Function (Automatic Current Reduction). For activation periods of 48 hours or more the unit will automatically switch off flashings LED and additional modules. This will save on current drain from the battery. If any attempted break-in occurs the alarm will trigger instantly. STATUS L.E.D. If the unit has been triggered, on disarming the system the LED will fash in a certain sequence to indicate which circuit has been violated.

PRE-INSTALLATION CHECKS Disconnect terminals of the battery and only reconnect after the installation is complete, giving consideration to the vehicle characteristics. Set the alarm switches as required in Table C1. The compact unit must be mounted under the bonnet, away from areas of intense heat and direct water spray. It must be installed using supplied bracket. The harness installation is illustrated in the diagram.

If alarm RED wire must be connected to the interior light circuit in the main fuse box. If the voltage sensing is de-activated the RED wire can be connected to the main feed in the fuse box or directly to the battery positive terminal. The positive supply is protected by a 5 Amp fuse as supplied.

ULTRASONIC ADJUSTMENT AND TEST PROCEDURE Lower one of the front windows approximately 20 cm. Adjust the sensitivity fully anti-clockwise.
Plug L.E.D. into the back of the unit. Arm the alarm and push your arm through the window. The L.E.D. will give a one second flash when movement has been detected. If L.E.D. does not flash, turn the sensitivity clockwise, until L.E.D. does pick up movement. Finally close all windows and gently go round the vehicle tapping the windscreen and window. If the alarm goes off you MUST reduce the sensitivity. Reconnect L.E.D. into harness and fix fairlead onto siren with screws provided (fig. D).

Reconnect battery to terminal. Turn the external key switch to the “ON” position. The alarm acknowledges this operation as a disconnection and reconnection of the vehicles battery and for this reason will arm itself, after an exit delay time of 5 seconds. On the 5003 with the external key in “ON” position the battery back up circuits are operated, therefore, if the battery is to be disconnected for any reason (i.e. servicing) the external key switch must be turned anti-clockwise to the “OFF” position.

Step 1: Position truck on a flat surface and lift the front wheels off the ground using jack stands or a (2) two post lift if available. Remove the wheels and tires on both sides. Remove the two lower sway bar nuts on both sides of truck. (Insert A) Remove the drivers’ side upper ball joint
cotter pin and loosen but Do Not Remove the upper ball joint nut completely. Use of a hammer to break the ball joint free may be needed. (Insert B) It s recommended that you complete the installation on one side of the vehicle before beginning the other side.

Step 2: Remove the strut from the vehicle and mount it in a bench vise, and install the Strut Spacer (91-2832). Torque fasteners to OEM specification. Note the offset shape of the strut spacer; the strut will be rotated 180 degrees when reinstalled. NOTE: Drill out the upper strut
mounting holes in frame pocket to 15/32”.

Step 3: Reinstall the strut assembly in its stock location by first loosely attaching (3) supplied 7/16” nuts on the top of the spring spacer (Insert C) Using a floor jack to support the lower arm remove the upper ball joint nut and lower the lower a-arm assembly until you can inset the lower strut mount bolt and nut. (Insert D)

Step 4: Raise floor jack and the lower a-arm assembly and reinstall upper ball joint nut and cotter pin, tighten upper strut hardware and re-torque all hardware to the stock specifications NOTE: At full droop check to see if the upper A-Arms contacts the upper coil buckets. If so, the lip of the upper coil bucket will need to be bent down to provide al least 1/8” to 3/16” of clearance between the coil bucket and the upper A-Arm.

Step 5: Repeat steps 1 through 4 on the Passenger Side of the vehicle. Then re-install the sway bar nuts on both sides and re-torque to the factory specifications. Reinstall wheels and tires. Follow each step closely, making sure to double check the torque on all fasteners.

Step 6: Wheel Alignment: A Certified Alignment Technician that is experinced with lifted vehicles is recommended to perform the alignment.
(Some trucks may need a camber kit at an additional charge) *It is recommended that you have your vehicle’s alignment checked whenever installing new tires. *It is also recommended that you adjust your headlights whenever your vehicle’s ride height is altered.
