Locking And Unlocking The Doors/Liftgate. Press the LOCK button once to lock all the doors and the liftgate. Press the UNLOCK button once to unlock the driver’s door only and twice within five seconds to unlock all the doors and liftgate. All doors can be programmed to unlock on the first press of the UNLOCK button.

Leaving unattended children in Jeep Commander is dangerous for a number of reasons. A child or others could be injured. Children should be warned not to touch the parking brake, brake pedal, or the shift lever. Do not leave the key in the ignition. A child could operate power windows, other controls, or move the vehicle. Driving with the flipper glass open can allow poisonous exhaust gases into your vehicle. You and your passengers could be injured by these fumes. Keep the flipper glass closed when you are operating the Jeep Commander.

Remote Start • Press the REMOTE START button 2 twice within five seconds. Pressing the REMOTE START button a third time shuts the engine off. • To drive the vehicle, press the UNLOCK button, insert the Key Fob in the ignition and turn to the ON/RUN position. • With remote start, the engine will only run for 15 minutes (timeout) unless the ignition Key Fob is placed in the ON/RUN position. • The vehicle must be started with the Key Fob after two consecutive timeouts.

Do not start or run an engine in a closed garage or confined area. Exhaust gas contains Carbon Monoxide (CO) which is odorless and colorless. Carbon Monoxide is poisonous and can cause serious injury or death when inhaled. • Keep Key Fob transmitters away from children. Operation of the Remote Start System, windows, door locks or other controls could cause serious injury or death.

Panic Alarm • Press the PANIC button once to turn the panic alarm on. • Wait approximately three seconds and press the button a second time to turn the panic alarm off.

Express Window Feature • To remotely lower both front door windows at the same time, press and release the UNLOCK button and then immediately press and hold the UNLOCK button until the windows lower to the level desired or until they lower completely.

Emergency Key • Should the battery in the vehicle or the Key Fob transmitter go dead, there is an emergency key located in the Key Fob. To remove the emergency key, slide the button at the top of the Key Fob sideways with your thumb and then pull the key out with your other hand. • The emergency key is also for locking the glove compartment. In a collision, you and your passengers can suffer much greater injuries if you are not properly buckled up. You can strike the interior of your vehicle or other passengers, or you can be thrown out of the vehicle. Always be sure you and others in your vehicle are buckled up properly. Adjusting a seat while the vehicle is moving is dangerous. The sudden movement of the seat could cause you to lose control. The seat belt might not be properly adjusted and you could be injured. Only adjust a seat while the vehicle is parked.

Do not ride with the seatback reclined so that the seat belt is no longer resting against your chest. In a collision, you could slide under the seat belt and be seriously or even fatally injured. Use the recliner only when the vehicle is parked.

Eight-Way Driver Power Seat • The recline switch, located on the outboard side of the seat, controls seatback adjustment. • The power seat switch controls forward/back, up/down, and tilt adjustment.

Four-Way Passenger Power Seat • The recline switch, located on the outboard side of the seat, controls seatback adjustment. • The power seat switch controls forward/back adjustment.

DO NOT place any article under a power seat or impede its ability to move as it may cause damage to the seat controls. Seat travel may become limited if movement is stopped by an obstruction in the seat’s path. The controls for front heated seats are located near the bottom center of the instrument panel (below the heater/air conditioning controls). • Press the switch once to select High-level heating. Press the switch a second time to select Low-level heating. Press the switch a third time to shut the heating elements Off.

Persons who are unable to feel pain to the skin because of advanced age, chronic illness, diabetes, spinal cord injury, medication, alcohol use, exhaustion or other physical condition must exercise care when using the seat heater. It may cause burns even at low temperatures, especially if used for long periods of time. • Do not place anything on the seat that insulates against heat, such as a blanket or cushion. This may cause the seat heater to overheat. Sitting in a seat that has been overheated could cause serious burns due to the increased surface temperature of the seat.

The AMC 20 sports 12 bolts and a WWI helmet-shaped cover. It’s ring and pinion is 3/8” larger than the D44, but uses smaller shafts and smaller axle tubes, which tend to flex more and lead to breakage. Two versions, narrow track and wide track, were used in 1976-and-later Jeep CJ’s, Wagoneers, and fullsize Cherokees. Jeep CJs, the Model 20 rear end is both strong and weak.

An 8 3/4-inch-diameter ring gear provides strength; weaknesses are the housing itself, two-piece shafts, and the axle-to-hub retaining method. Converting to one-piece axles or full-floaters gives this axle better stamina. This semi-floating rear axle features a 10-bolt cover and appeared in various Jeep XJ’s and ZJ’s as early as 1991. It has also been used as an alternative to the Dana 35C when those units were not available, and the cover design is so similar that it’s difficult to distinguish between the two.

All Spicer Carrier Type Axles (rigid or leaf spring) are identified with a manufacturing date and Bill of Material (part number) stamped on the right or left hand tube on driving axles. Each axle contains a gear ratio tag and if axle is equipped with a limited slip differential, it will have a tag specifying the type of limited slip lubricant to be used.

The Bill of Material will always contain six digits (basic number), followed by a dash numer. Example: 610036-4. The seventh digit, the -4, will identify axle ratio and options.

The Jeep Patriot concept was first introduced at the 2005 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany. The 2008 Patriot has an instrument panel that is nicely laid out and easily read regardless of the driver’s seat position. The engine has adequate power, although I would have preferred a little more vigor and a little less engine noise. The Patriot is larger than the Jeep Compass, but smaller than the Commander.

Personally I think the Compass takes sales away from the Patriot, while the Patriot is the better vehicle. The Patriot is a great off-road vehicle, but don’t think you can take it to a place like Honduras and go off-road for a picnic. It does fine off-road on well-worn paths or familiar trails, but it is a long way from being as rugged and strong as its ancestors. The Patriot has a strong front bumper and a grille that is stylish and adds strength to the bumper. The only real criticism I had was the braking system, which seemed a little bit stiff, and the Patriot didn’t seem to have the alertness that one might need for a critical quick stop. The Patriot sits up high and the driver is some distance from the windshield. The legroom for the driver is super and a tall person can drive in relaxed comfort.

The Jeep Patriot has a Lifetime Powertrain limited warranty, 3- year or 36,000-mile basic limited warranty, and 3-year or 36,000- mile 24-hour towing assistance. It also has a 5-star Government Safety Rating for side front seat and crash rear seat. Anti-lock 4-wheel disc brakes, speed-sensitive power locks, automatically dimming rearview mirrors, rear window defroster, and rear window wipers are part of the basic package. SIRIUS Satellite Radio and steering- wheel-mounted audio controls are also part of the basic package, which surprised me. Snowstorms charged across the Midwest and southwest parts of the United States before moving into the high plains and Great Lakes area.

During the first part of the week, in Dallas, we received five inches of snow and later we got over ten in some areas. The Jeep Patriot performed marvelously in this type of weather. Frozen bridges and deep pockets of snow hampered my commute to work very little. I just opened the power sunroof covering, turned on the daytime running light system, felt the power of the 2.4L 4-cyl DOHC 16V Dual VVI Engine (172 hp) and allowed the wiper blades to keep time to the music on the stereo. I felt just like Janice Joplin and her Bobby McGee. The snow fell in large feathery clumps and the north wind was iceberg frigid; yet, my friendly Patriot took it all in stride while delivering me safely to my destination. And did I mention, I got nearly 25 miles to the gallon during the time I drove the Patriot?

Find a suitable location inside the cab to mount the TruSpeed module. The module is water resistant, but it should be installed away from high heat sources such as the heating ducts and vents. In most instances, it can easily be attached to the bottom of the dash using the supplied two-sided tape. Separate the red and black wires from the yellow and green wires on the TruSpeed module. Using the supplied ring terminal, route and attach the black wire from the module to a suitable ground. Trim the wire to length as necessary.

Locate the fuse block for the vehicle. Fuse block location can be found in the vehicle owner’s manual or service manual. Refer to chart A to identify an appropriate switched 12-volt source on the fuse block for your application. The circuit should be hot when the ignition switch is in both the “start” and “run” positions. Use the fuse puller tool (normally attached to the fuse block or the access door) to pull the fuse indicated in the chart out of the block and set aside. Turn the ignition switch to the “on” position. Using a test light or voltmeter, determine which side of the fuse terminal (where you just removed the fuse) is “hot,” or receiving 12 volts. Turn the ignition switch back to the “off” position. Slide the appropriate fuse tapper into the hot side of the circuit (two are provided with the module: one for standard blade-type fuses and one for mini-blade fuses used in most late-model vehicles) and replace the fuse.

Trim the red wire from the TruSpeed module as necessary, attach the supplied spade terminal, and connect it to the fuse tapper. LOCATING THE SPEED SENSOR (All Jeep and some Dodge vehicles)… The speed sensor is located on the tailhousing of the transmission (on two-wheel drives) or
transfer case (on four-wheel drives). The tailhousing is the last 8 to 10 inches of the transfer case where the rear driveshaft attaches. There should be a two- or three-wire plug visible on the sensor.

Release the plastic locking piece and pull the plug straight out of the sensor. Refer to chart “A” for the appropriate wire identification (color code) for the specific year and model of the vehicle. The color codes in the chart are listed with the primary color of the wire listed first and the stripe color (if any) listed second. For example, WHT/ORG is a white wire with an orange stripe. Locate the correct color-code wire on the speed sensor plug and unwrap it from the rest of the factory wire loom. The TruSpeed is connected in two different ways: For all Chrysler and Toyota applications, route the yellow and green wires from the TruSpeed module to the speed sensor plug at the transmission or transfer case. For late-model Ford and Dodge vehicles, locate the appropriate color-coded wire (indicated in the chart) in the main plug on the ABS module. The location of the ABS module can be found in the factory service manual. Disconnect the plug from the ABS module. Cut the proper color-coded wire and strip both ends of insulation. IMPORTANT: [Diagram 1] It is strongly recommended that all connections to the sensor wire are soldered. Use the following method: Slide the supplied heat shrink tubing over one of the wires to be connected. Crimp each connection using the supplied non-insulated terminals. Solder both wires to the terminal. After allowing the soldered connection to cool, slide the heat shrink tubing over the connection and use an appropriate heat source to shrink the tubing. Wrap the completed connection with electrical tape and place back in the factory wire loom. Connect the green wire from the TruSpeed to the wire end leading to the speed sensor or ABS plug. Connect the yellow wire from the TruSpeed to the end leading to the wire loom / computer. NOTE: Improperly connecting the yellow and green wires will prevent the unit from operating properly. If applicable, reconnect the plug to the ABS module.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
This bellhousing is not compatible with transmissions that were previously equipped with diesel engines. The new bellhousing design incorporates the exclusive use of the original Jeep internal hydraulic release bearing assembly. The new bearing will need to be installed on the front of the transmission with the nylon straps in position. DO NOT REMOVE THE NYLON STRAPS PRIOR TO ASSEMBLY. Make sure that the new bearing is positioned over the front of the Peugeot transmission properly. The steel lines will need to be bent so that they exit through the Advance Adapter
bellhousing hole. If the new bearing assembly is not properly fitted to the front of the transmission, the bearing assembly will be angled causing seal failure. On most applications, you will need to grind the necessary clearance on the inside of the bellhousing in order for the bearing to sit in the proper position.

This bearing assembly must be used with a high profile Centerforce pressure plate. Make sure the bearing assembly does not bottom out against the clutch fingers prior to bleeding of the slave cylinder installation. The original Jeep pressure plate can be reused with the new GM flywheel. However, you must double check the deck height of the fingers versus the bearing height to make sure the necessary clearance is obtained. The only way to develop additional clearance between the clutch fingers and bearing height is to machine the flywheel thickness. We had an experienced of a customer that used a flywheel that was 1-1/8″ thick and during assembly, he developed a 1/8″ interference between the fingers
and the bearing. This interference created severe friction and caused premature seal failure. Take the extra time to measure the bearing height and finger height and allow for a minimum of 1/16″ clearance.

Make sure the tip of the input shaft has sufficient engagement into the pilot bushing.
1. Install the pilot bushing into the engine crank.
2. Install the flywheel, pressure plate & clutch disc onto engine using the correct flywheel and clutch bolts.
3. With the clutch and flywheel assembled, measure the deck height of the clutch fingers. This height should be approximately 3.875″.
4. Install the new Jeep release bearing onto the front of the Peugeot transmission. Make sure that the hole on the front of the transmission lines up with the plastic retainer cap. This small split pin will prevent the retainer from rotating inside the bellhousing. DO NOT REMOVE PLASTIC STRAPS. Make sure that new bearing assembly fits properly onto front of transmission without any binding of the hydraulic lines.
5. Assemble the transmission to the bellhousing using the original bolts and dowel pins.
6. With the bearing in position on the front of the transmission and the bellhousing bolted to the transmission, you will need to measure the bearing height from the engine face of the bellhousing. This distance must be approximately 4″ allowing for 1/8″ clearance between bearing and clutch fingers.
7. If the clearance between the bearing and clutch fingers is not provided, you will need to machine the flywheel to a thinner measurement that will provide the necessary clearances.
8. Assemble the bellhousing over the clutch assembly. Make sure the bearing face has clearance between the fingers and bearing surface. Premature collapsing of the slave cylinder assembly will damage the internal components. The face of the bearing must have clearance between the fingers prior to bleeding.
9. The hydraulic line between the Jeep master cylinder and the new Jeep hydraulic slave cylinder will need to be assembled together.
10. Bleed the slave cylinder assembly.
11. Check to make sure that the slave cylinder is fully disengaging the clutch plate. If you have any difficulties obtaining the necessary travel, contact Advance Adapters immediately.
