1. Safety and General installation AP800 Interface
NOTE!: Before installation AP800 interface read also AP800 Cruise Control kit installation manual
Warning! Improper cable connection may result in short circuits, which can cause:
• Cable Fires
• Damage to electronic control equipment
• Failure of electrical functions
• Failure of engine
The securest form of connection is by soldering the cables and then insulation the connection. Because of the risk of short circuits, always disconnect the negative pole of the battery before starting installation.

Caution!
On disconnecting the negative pole of the battery, all the volatile memories of the convenience electronics will lose their stored data. The following equipment may have to be reprogrammed
• Radio code
• Clock
• Board Computer
• Seat position
• Timer
Caution!
To check the voltage in electric cables, use only a diode test lamp, voltmeter or scope. Test lamps, which light up, take too much current and the vehicle electronics may be damaged

Electronic interface module AP800:
The electronic module should always be mounted in the passenger compartment of the car, near the accelerator pedal with the 4mm sheet metal screws. Avoid places with excessive heat, dampness and high-tension leads. The most common mounting locations are under the dashboard on the driver’s side, behind the glove compartment or the drivers- or passenger-side kick panels. Do not mount the electronic module in the engine compartment. For mounting, mark holes, center punch and drill the 3mm holes or use the double-sided pad to stick the electronic module to a flat surface. Always check the other side for clearance before drilling. Temporarily install the electronic module in the selected position. DO NOT firmly screw the electronic module down unless you have easy access to the electronic module. Once the installation has been finished, the electronic module can be screwed down in the selected position.

Kit contents:
• T-harness
• Black-red power wire
Connect the Black-Red wire to a constant 12V power supply (insert 2A fuse in fuse holder)

We goinstallation oftopic dedicated on with our to the wheel bearings. In this issue we will look at non-driving rear wheels, and consider two types
of bearings: – Cartridge double-row tapered-roller bearings, – Hub double-row ball bearings.

Cartridge bearings with two rows of tapered rollers are used for the non-driving rear wheels of compact and mid-size vehicles. They are usually mounted in “drum-brake hubs”, and sometimes in “disk-brake hub”. Hub bearings, also called “single-flanged bearings”, integrate the hub function in their outer ring, to which the brake rotor and the wheel are directly attached. This solution, which facilitates assembly and increases reliability, is mainly used on the non-driving rear wheels of upper mid-size vehicles. Note: The last page gives important recommendations regarding the nstallation of wheel bearings and provides a list of vehicles and kits corresponding to the two types of assemblies discussed in this document.

I. REMOVAL
1 Remove in sequence: – the brake drum or the caliper and rotor, the hub cap and the spindle nut, – the hub bearing (by hand
or with a bearing puller).
2 Before installing the new bearing, check the overall condition of the spindle and the cleanliness of all surfaces that will contact the bearing. The SNR kit contains all parts necessary for assembly. Sometime, a sheet metal slinger ring is mounted on the steering knuckle. In this case, the bearing seal should have a front lip that rides against this slinger ring. Do not remove the slinger ring.
3 If the seal has a front lip, apply a bead of grease under the latter. Install the hub bearing on the spindle either by hand or with a threaded chuck positioned at the end of the spindle.
4 With a torque wrench, tighten the new spindle nut to the torque recommended by the car manufacturer. Re-install the hub cap. Re-attach the brake drum or the rotor and caliper.

II. INSTALLATION
Before installing the new bearing, check the overall condition of the spindle and the cleanliness of all surfaces that will contact the bearing.
PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE WHEN INSTALLING BEARINGS
1. Always refer to the technical manual of the vehicle.
2. Prepare all necessary equipment and tools before starting installation. Make sure they are clean and in good working condition.
3. Verify the kit part number. Remove the bearing from its packing at the last moment, and always place it on a clean workbench.
4. Clean parts and components that are in the vicinity of the bearing and check they are in proper condition. Check particularly that the hub, steering knuckle and driveshaft are free of scratches, scoring or indentations. Replace any damaged parts.
5. Do not remove or damage parts that are not provided with the kit (e.g. slinger ring).
6. Never remove or separate the components of a bearing.
7. To ensure a correct bearing installation, use a press (approx. 10 tons capacity).
8. Always apply the load to the ring that is being fitted. The fitting load must never be transmitted through the rolling elements (balls, rollers). Never apply pressure to both rings at once.
9. Apply the torque values recommended by the car manufacturer.

In the frontal impact, forward movement of the 3 year dummy’s head was not excessive and the heads of both dummies were contained by the restraints in the side impact. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. However, information provided to the driver about the status of the airbag is not sufficiently clear.

Good protection was provided to pedestrians’ legs by the bumper and maximum points were scored. However, the front edge of the bonnet scored no points. The protection offered by the bonnet to a pedestrian’s head was marginal or poor in those areas likely to be struck by a child and predominantly poor in those areas where an adult’s head might strike.

The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the front occupants’ knees and femurs. Citroen were able to demonstrate that occupants of different sizes, and those sat in different positions, would be offered a similar level of protection. In the side barrier impact, the car scored maximum points, good protection being provided to all vulnerable body areas. In the more severe side pole test, rib deflections indicated weak chest protection but other body areas were well protected. The seat and head restraint
provided poor protection against whiplash injuries, scoring no points in the most severe of the three tests performed.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is available on some variants in the model range but is not expected to be fitted as standard in sufficient numbers to qualify for points under Euro NCAP’s rating scheme. A driver-set speed limitation device is expected to be fitted as standard to the great majority of cars sold and is an option on all variants in the range. A seatbelt reminder system for driver and front seat passenger is fitted as standard across the model range.

Injection Engines Mounting PDF Installation Instructions

STEP 1: Find the static timing point FOR ID/DS :
Manual 4 speeds gearbox and Citromatic (BVH) gearbox: remove the front license plate and insert the starting handle through the hole in the front valence to engage the starter dog in the front of the gear box. Alternatively, and on manual 5 speed transmissions: jack up the left front wheel and put the car in 5th gear, so that the engine may be turned by turning the wheel.

On the old distributor, note the position of the ignition wire to the number one (front) cylinder. Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine so that the rotor points to the number one cylinder position, as previously noted. Insert a 6mm (15/64 inch) pin or drill bit into the timing hole on the left side of the clutch bell housing, below the alternator mounting bracket. Now carefully turn the engine until the pin engages the hole in the flywheel. The engine is now at the static timing point, near the end of the compression stroke for the number one cylinder. This point corresponds to 12 degrees before Top Dead Center on engines built before July 1st 1971, and to 0 (zero) degrees on engines built after July 1st 1971.

For ID/DS’s from before 1965 it is necessary to make a direct connection between the ‘minus’ of the battery and the housing of the 123\DS, using one of the M5-trheaded holes in the 123\DS-housing. REMOVE THE 6mm LOCATING PIN !!! Go to step 2.
FOR CITROEN-HY and TRACTION AVANT : On the old distributor, note the position of the ignition wire to the number one cylinder. Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine so that the rotor points to the number one cylinder position, as previously noted. Insert a 6mm (15/64 inch) pin or drill bit into the timing hole. Now carefully turn the engine until the pin engages the hole in the flywheel. The engine is now at the static timing point, near the end of the compression stroke for the number one cylinder. This point corresponds to 12 degrees before Top Dead Center.
Make a direct connection between the ‘minus’ of the battery, and the housing of the 123\DS, using one of the M5-trheaded holes in the 123\DS. ( This is a MUST for these types! ) REMOVE THE 6mm LOCATING PIN !!! Go to step 3.

STEP 2: Mark the static timing point Using a narrow line of white paint, mark the camshaft pulley at the point where the timing scale reads 0 (zero) degrees. If you don’t have a timing scale, you have to make your own. For engines built after July 1971, turn the crankshaft 12 degrees backwards. The white line on the pulley now points at 6 degrees on the timing scale. ( as the cam-shaft rotates at half the speed of the crankshaft, 12 degrees rotation of the crankshaft corresponds logically to 6 degrees of the camshaft )

STEP 3: Out with the old, in with the new
You may wish to verify that the correct advance curve has been selected in your ’123′ : using a 5mm Allen wrench remove the plug in the bottom face of the housing. Inside the hole you’ll find a 16 position rotary switch, marked ’0′ to ‘F’. Check the mode switch table below for the proper setting. Re-insert the plug and tighten securely. Now remove the spark plug wires and coil wire from the old distributor cap and remove the
old cap. Disconnect the points wire from the coil. Unscrew the hold down nut at the base of the distributor and pull the old unit out. Transfer the clamp plate from the old distributor to your new ’123′, and tighten the clamp gently so that the distributor can still be turned with some effort. Now remove the cap from the ’123′ and carefully insert the ’123′ in the hole, turning the rotor until the drive gears mate and the unit falls into place. Rotate the housing of the ’123′ so that the cables come out conveniently. If necessary, the drive gear can be repositioned on the shaft to accommodate a different rotational position. To do this, remove the ’123′ and carefully remove the retaining spring from the drive gear, then use a small punch to tap out the pin and re-assemble at an angle more suitable to your needs.

The Citroen C3 five-door hatchback is a new entry into the crowded small car segment, and one that comes with a big reputation from overseas.
The C3 has won car-of-the-year awards in Europe and was even voted the “world’s most beautiful small car”. In Australia, the C3’s pricing puts it at the upper end of the small car segment where it competes with recent new (and well regarded) arrivals such as the Honda Jazz, Mazda2 and Renault Clio. Two versions of the C3 are available, the SX and the Exclusive. Both are powered by a 1.4 litre single overhead camshaft engine that produces a fairly meagre 57 kW. Buyers have the choice of five-speed manual or four speed automatic transmission.

Later this year, a more powerful (82 kW) 1.6 litre version of the C3 will arrive, with the option of a five-speed sequential automatic gearbox. Prices for the current C3 models start at $19,990 for an SX, with an Exclusive manual costing $20,990. Automatic is only available in the Exclusive and its price is $22,990. The C3 is well specified in the areas of safety, security and convenience. Safety equipment includes four airbags (dual front and front side), pyrotechnic front seat belt pretensioners and force limiters, three-point belts in all seating positions and automatic fuel shut-off when any of the airbags are deployed. Also adding to the C3’s safety are its superior roadholding and handling characteristics, its reportedly very strong body structure and the raised seating positions that allow for clear vision.

The Exclusive models further enhance the safety equation by including anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, rain sensing windscreen wipers and front fog lights. Both models come standard with air conditioning (climate control on the Exclusive), power front windows, electric power steering, a six-speaker sound system with CD player, power exterior mirrors, remote central locking, a “chilled” glovebox, split fold rear seat, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, and height adjustable headlights. The C3 rates towards the top of its class on vehicle security, with a good quality immobiliser, a HF remote control central locking unit and transponder, and a function that automatically relocks the vehicle if it is left unlocked. Inside the C3, there’s plenty of front seat travel to accommodate long legs, but if all or most of the travel is utilized, rear leg space is minimal.

The front seats are generally comfortable, though they don’t provide much in the way of lateral support. Although it’s unlikely that three people would be occupying the rear seat on a regular basis, there are three head restraints and three lap/sash seat belts. The C3’s luggage area is relatively deep but it’s not very long. The seat backrest is divided in a 60/40 split but the cushion doesn’t fold, leaving a step-up in the load area. With a tilt and telescopic steering wheel and a height adjustable seat, drivers of various sizes should be able to find a suitable driving position. However, some may find that themanual model’s clutch and brake pedals are a bit too close together. The 1.4 litre engine’s meagre power output becomes obvious when you head the manual C3 up a few hills and it soon becomes necessary to change down into the lower gears to maintain momentum. However in its more natural city and suburban environment, the 1.4 C3 gets along quite satisfactorily.

Judging from our release drive of the C3 range, the automatic version is no ball of fire either, even though in some respects its gearing seemed better suited to the engine’s limited performance. The 1.6 litre version’s arrival will be welcome for the performance boost it will bring, however it probably won’t be as economical as the frugal 1.4 litre. Our test results put the 1.4 litre C3 in fifth spot on the list of most economical performers
in NRMA tests, and third if the two hybrid vehicles that currently occupy first and third spots are discounted.. For many years, European cars have set benchmarks for their ride and handling qualities and the C3 is no exception. It handles well in all sorts of conditions, steers precisely
and still provides a more comfortable ride than many of its small car rivals.

Working on your car can be dangerous. This PDF Manual shows just some of the potential risks and hazards when you are repairing Citroen ZX, with the aim of creating a safety-conscious attitude.

General hazards Scalding
• Don’t remove the radiator or expansion tank cap while the engine is hot.
• Engine oil, automatic transmission fluid or power steering fluid may also be dangerously hot if the engine has recently been running.
• Beware of burns from the exhaust system and from any part of the engine. Brake discs and drums can also be extremely hotimmediately after use.

Fire
• Fuel is highly flammable; fuel vapour is explosive.
• Don’t let fuel spill onto a hot engine.
• Do not smoke or allow naked lights (including pilot lights) anywhere near a vehicle being worked on. Also beware of creating sparks (electrically or by use of tools).
• Fuel vapour is heavier than air, so don’t work on the fuel system with the vehicle over an inspection pit.
• Another cause of fire is an electrical overload or short-circuit. Take care when repairing or modifying the vehicle wiring.
• Keep a fire extinguisher handy, of a type suitable for use on fuel and electrical fires.

Electric shock
• Ignition HT voltage can be dangerous, especially to people with heart problems or a pacemaker. Don’t work on or near the ignition system with the engine running or the ignition switched on.

• Mains voltage is also dangerous. Make sure that any mains-operated equipment is correctly earthed. Mains power points should be protected by a residual current device (RCD) circuit breaker.

Hydrofluoric acid
• This extremely corrosive acid is formed when certain types of synthetic rubber, found in some O-rings, oil seals, fuel hoses etc, are exposed to temperatures above 400°C. The rubber changes into a charred or sticky substance containing the acid. Once formed, the acid remains dangerous for years. If it gets onto the skin, it may be necessary to amputate the limb concerned.
• When dealing with a vehicle which has suffered a fire, or with components salvaged from such a vehicle, wear protective gloves and discard them after use.

The battery
• Batteries contain sulphuric acid, which attacks clothing, eyes and skin. Take care when topping-up or carrying the battery.
• The hydrogen gas given off by the battery is highly explosive. Never cause a spark or allow a naked light nearby. Be careful when connecting and disconnecting battery chargers or jump leads.
