4. Wiper switch
5. Cruise control stalk
6. Steering wheel heating switch
7. Steering column adjustment stalk
The Steering Column Switch Center (SZL) handles all functional components of the Multi-Function Steering Wheel (MFL) and the steering column.
The SZL is a satellite of the overall ISIS system (Intelligent Safety and Integration System) on the byteflight bus system.
Installation time
The installation time is 5.5 hours, but this may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it. Important information. These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by authorised BMW service companies. In any event the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with the appropriate specialist knowledge. All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals and work instructions in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations.
What is a Flexible Fuel Vehicle?
As currently offered to consumers by several automakers, flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) are designed to operate on any mixture of gasoline and ethanol – with ethanol concentrations of up to 85% by volume (E85).* There is one major difference between an FFV and a conventional gasoline-fueled vehicle – the FFV detects the ethanol/gasoline ratio and makes appropriate adjustments to the engine’ ignition timing and air/fuel mixture ratios to account for the ethanol and optimize performance and maintain emissions control. The vehicle must be equipped with an air/fuel ratio map capable of handling the adjustments necessary for optimized performance on both gasoline and E85. Components of the fuel delivery systems on FFVs are also modified and upgraded to be resistant to the corrosive effects of alcohol in the fuel.
This installation guide is intended to supplement the BMW Installation Instructions to help you with the installation of the BMW Sirius Receiver for BMW X5 (E53) with Navigation. I opted for the Terk SIR3 Low-Profile Magnetic Mount antenna and mounted it in the spoiler. As a result, this guide will not cover the installation of the BMW Sirius Satellite Antenna and you should follow the instructions supplied with the BMW Sirius Satellite Antenna Kit if you decide to go that route. I found no signal loss or weak reception with the antenna being in the spoiler and would strongly recommend if you want to be stealth and do not like the obtrusive shape of the BMW Sirius antenna on your roof.
OTC Tire Pressure Monitor Kit is designed to complete the overall series, which covers vehicles Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPM). The software contains a vehicle entry system easy and accurate to use the correct interface to the vehicle. Display a graphical user interface, where the device is used little or no information about the TPMS.

Note: The USB Adaptor will be not provided by the factory. The user can find it at the local market. You can use a USB Adaptor for connecting PC A8 Scanner and your computer if there is no COM available on your computer.
Cold Engine and Drivetrain Procedures
Note: In most cases the alternator belt does not need to be checked any more. Early models should have the pulley and belt upgrade that came out a few years ago. Current recommendations are that the belt is installed and adjusted, then not disturbed until 36K when replacement is specified.
1. Remove the four bolts holding the black plastic alternator belt cover at the front of the engine, 4mm T-handle hex.
2. Remove the cover by sliding it straight down.
3. Check the belt for cracks or shredding.
4. Check the belt tension, quite tight, ~1/4” deflection when you press on the center.
Note: Paul Glaves suggests that proper belt tension is when you can twist the belt ~90 degrees, midway between the pulleys. If you can twist it more than 90 degrees, it is too loose. If you cannot twist it 90 degrees, then it is too tight.
5. Leave the cover off for the valve adjustment procedure on the next page.
In the fall of 1999 I had the pleasure of purchasing a 97 BMW M3. I had always been in awe of the car after hearing many publications rave about its handling prowess and silky smooth drivetrain. I never imagined that I would own a car of this caliber, but that all changed when I made one fatal mistake. I allowed a dealer to hand me the keys for a test drive. Actually, I didn’t want to drive the car, but a friend I had along with me,
without my prior knowledge, asked that I be allowed to drive the car. End of story. I now drive an Alpine White M3 and can’t wait to make that last payment.
BMW would like you to be a part of its prestigious family. The appropriately badged 1 series is an all new model aimed largely at buyers who until now, thought the brand outside their reach. Opinion seems divided on the newcomer’s style. Sharing design cues with the sporty Z4 roadster, the long bonnet, low roofline and heavily sculpted body details
are definite attention grabbers. Its rear wheel drive chassis stays loyal to BMW’s design philosophy and also makes it the odd one out amongst sporting hatchbacks.
