Anticipation But between the lines of this boasting text there is an important message. The Q5 is not an indestructible and invincible off-roader but mainly a life style vehicle. The Q5 emphasises on design and sportiness. That is confirmed by its looks: the Q5 is significantly lower and more streamlined than the average SUV. The Q5 is a cross between a large estate and a modest SUV cars. The lines are especially elegant, like only Audi can. It is understandable that people feel an urge to buy this car just by looking at the pictures. More than with other cars the colour influences the looks. In black the Q5 looks large, dangerous and “bad”. In lighter colours the refined lines are brought out best. The test car in “Dakar Beige” has something adventurous.

Equipment The moment your backside slides onto the driver’s seat you feel superior and privileged. This is all made just beautifully! Normally Audi distinguishes itself by a clean and immaculate finish, but the Q5 goes up another notch. To emphasise that the Q5 is not an entry level car, it can be fitted with all the equipment that is also available for the larger Audi-models. The test car is fitted with so many extras, that the price of the options alone would buy a decent city car. But, with all those extras the Q5 is luxury on wheels.

A highly recommendable option is the sublime sounding B&O sound system. The Q5 is equipped with the third generation of Audi’s “Multi Media Interface” (MMI). It still has more buttons and is less easy to use than similar systems from other brands, but -for now- it has two unique options.
The sat-nav does not only calculate the shortest or fastest route to a destination, but can also give the most economic route. When zooming in on the map, not only streets are shown but outlines of buildings appear in 3d!

Very handy are the parking camera and “Side Assist” (a warning will be shown when there’s a vehicle in the blind spot of the mirrors). Forget about the heated/cooled cup holder: it hardly works. The cabin of the this “compact” SUV is remarkably spacious, both in the front and the back. From an ergonomic point of view the Q5 doesn’t have the slightest error or discomfort. The bench folds flat by just pulling a lever. From a perfect flat cargo floor to a power tailgate: Audi has thought of everything.

Driving Surrounded by beautiful materials and high-tech electronics the Q5 gives the privileged feeling that makes owning a car like this so desirable. That feeling only gets stronger when driving the Q5. Although the driver doesn’t sit up so high that he/she feels king of the road, the driving characteristics are good that the Q5 does give one a feeling of superiority.

Even the base engine, the 2.0 litre diesel, performs very well. Shortly after starting the testdrive the car was actually stopped at the side of the road to check the name plate on the back to make sure this really is just a 2.0 TDI. When put in cold hard numbers the performance of the basic engine isn’t very impressive, but the Q5 feels very quick. Furthermore: the Q5 is very quiet and performs with ease. No matter how many revs the engine makes, there’s always lots of power available. When really provoked even this basic engine can get the Q5 into a spectacular four wheel drift!

Stand in front of your Audi Q5 in the corresponding position of the HomeLink transmitter unit with the original remote control for the gate or garage door opener (or other device). Hold the original remote control at a distance of between 0-30 cm to the corresponding position of the HomeLink transmitter unit. Now activate (press) the remote control. The distance between the remote control and the HomeLink transmitter unit in the bumper depends on the system being programmed. You may require several attempts at different distances. Maintain each setting position for at least 15 seconds before trying out another. Keep your hazard warning lights in view whilst doing this.

The hazard warning lights blink three times to indicate that the programming has been successful. Note: If the training time exceeds the five minutes, the hazard warning lights blink once. If this happens, you should repeat steps 2 to 4. To program the other two buttons, follow steps 2 to 4.

Operating the HomeLink System The vehicle should be within the operating range of the gate or garage door opener and the ignition should be switched on. The HomeLink system operates the gate or garage door opener (or other device) in exactly the same way as the original remote control. When you have programmed the HomeLink system, press the appropriate button I, II, or III on the control panel to activate the gate or garage door opener. The diode will light up when you press the button on the control panel.

For convenience, the original remote control of the device may also be used at any time. Look in your gate or garage door opener manual for clarification. The remote control appears to program HomeLink but HomeLink does not operate the gate or garage door opener. Press and hold down the programmed HomeLink button. With a rolling code system, the HomeLink diode flashes quickly for a short time and then stays on constantly for two seconds. This pattern repeats itself for up to 20 seconds.

Rolling Code Synchronisation You need to check by going through the following steps whether or not your gate or garage door opener (or other device) is equipped with a rolling code feature. If HomeLink was programmed with a rolling code system, then after the end of the programming period it must be synchronised with this system again before it will function properly. Follow the instructions below for Rolling Code synchronisation (the procedure will take less time with a second person to help).

This point was driven home for me recently when I attended the 24 Hours of Le Mans and enjoyed hearing the almos calm, smooth-running, diesel-powered Audi R10s whip around the track in competition with (and oftentimes declare victory over) the chortling, standard-fuel entries from other performance car companies. That spirit of embracing unique technologies that succeed in reinforcing the brand’s luxury underpinnings is abundantly apparent across its whole line, from the directly Le Mans-inspired R8 sport coupe to its terrific entry-level Quattro models to its commitment to diesel engines to its partnership with audio leader Bang & Olufsen, which produces an exceptional optional stereo package for Audi’s top models

BMW When it comes to the performance/luxury formula of high-end motoring, more than any other large-scale manufacturer, BMW consistently delivers pure driving thrills across its entire line, from its muscular M program offerings to its marvelous 7 Series flagship to its zippy Z4 roadsters to its new “SAV” X6 crossovers to its universally praised 3 Series models. To be a Jaguar enthusiast is to be an undying romantic, I’ll admit to it. If you think back to the quintessentially British marque’s post-war era of classically beautiful and powerful cars (as well as its share of racing victories), like the stunning long-bonneted E-Type or the regal Mark II, and take a gander at the reinvented lightweight modern models painstakingly crafted by design head Ian Callum (one of the industry’s most skilled, and most intuitive), you can still feel that romance and passion. With a business history a bit more chaotic than its uncompromising heritage of design and performance, Jaguar now has a new, deep-pocketed home with international conglomerate Tata that promises a focused and attentive approach to fostering the legendary brand. Previous owner Ford’s attempts to open up the line to more entry-level buyers proved to be a misstep; Jaguar is simply a luxury brand, period. Advanced offerings like the company’s R program (with its throbbing supercharged engines) and stunning Vanden Plas interior package for the flagship XJ, help plant that luxury flag firmly within a line of gorgeous, sensual performance automobiles.

Lexus In the late 1980s Toyota challenged the reigning protocols of luxury car-making by audaciously suggesting that leveraging the expertise and efficiency of mass production could yield superb vehicles on par with, or even superior to, their existing counterparts. Lexus succeeded not only in changing the playing field forever, but also succeeded in astronomical sales and a rapid-fire marketing success that almost defies logic.
The rest, as they say, is history. Harnessing only the best-of-breed developments from the flurry of ideas and innovations that are endemic to the competitive large-scale automotive industry, Lexus has only gotten better and better at challenging those same precepts (the first true-luxury hybrid in the LS 600h sedan, the remarkably nimble IS-F sport coupe that evokes the “P” word in terms of performance and handling) and continuing to win over the hearts and minds of the luxury car buyer..

6.Place a brake line clamp on the brake line. Thiswill minimize brake fluid loss.
7.Using an 11mm wrench, disconnect brake line from caliper. Be aware that brake fluid may leak from line once disconnected.
8. Disconnect ABS sensor grommet from mounting bracket by pulling straight up.
9. Disconnect brake pad sensor from mounting bracket. Pry tab up gently with small flat head screwdriver, rotate counterclockwise 90 degrees, and lift up.

10.Clip the section of wire between the brake pad and the plug. Be sure to leave sufficient wire length coming from the plug in order to crimp the wires together. Strip 1/8” of the insulation on the wires and connect them together using a wire crimp as illustrated in picture bellow. It is recommended to protect the connection by applying shrink-wrap around the wire crimp.
11.Place the pad sensor plug in the small opening on the upright.
12.With a zip tie included in the kit, secure the plugs placement by zip tying it tightly to the ABS wire that is also running through the upright.
13.Using a deep well socket, remove the 17mm bolts on the back side of the caliper and remove caliper.
14.Remove the rotor. If the rotor seems to be stuck in place, lightly tap rotor with a rubber mallet.
15.Remove the backing plate. It is held on by three 10mm bolts.
16.Install the APR caliper mounting bracket with the flat side facing the outside of the vehicle and tighten with a 17mm deep well socket.

17.Install the APR rotor for the corresponding side (see picture below) and test for clearance on the backside at the bottom. When checking for clearance, be sure to secure and firmly seat the rotor with a bolt. Occasionally there is flash material from the casting in the area circled in the picture to the left. If it is necessary to remove material, a hand file will be sufficient. Note: There is a left and right side rotor. In order to achieve maximum performance it is recommended that the rotors be installed with the outside end of slots pointed in the wheels direction of rotation.
18.Remove the two 5mm hex head bolts on the inboard side of the APR caliper. These are securing the brake pad retaining bracket.
19.Remove the brake pad retaining bracket. Be sure to note orientation for reinstallation.
20.Install the APR caliper marked for the corresponding side. Be sure the APR logo is facing towards the outside of the vehicle and the bleeder valves are oriented upwards. Note: There is a left and right side caliper and they CANNOT be interchanged.
