With the resurrection of the name Vantage 1977 Aston Martin fans everywhere breathed a sigh of relief, previously applied to the high-power versions of the DB six-cylinder cars, it was dormant since the advent of the V8 back in 1969.
A heavier car than the six-cylinder predecessor, the V8 suffered as emissions legislation became more strangulating, leading to concern that the traditional Aston Martin performance image may be lost. The arrival of the Vantage displaced such concerns.
