They give the installer the ability to adjust the power of the cam allows the camera to be positioned from 0 to 8 degrees advanced or retarded 2-degrees. Remember, the camshaft angle is half the angle of crankshaft, camshaft will all advance or delay of 1, 2, 3 or 4 degrees. This allows the axis of the camshaft to be “composed of” more accurate than the use of the cam degree bushings.

Installation:
We recommend the chain and sprockets be pre-assembled before final assembly to check the interference between the block and timing set. When installing or removing the bottom crank gear, which is a “press fit”, a good shooter and installation tools should be used to prevent possible damage to one or sprocket of the crankshaft snout . Extra care should be given to the front of the block where cam thrust is adjusted so as to avoid excessive wear.

Please examine the diagram on the back of these instructions, because your gear crank May not be stamped indicating the timing marks to advance or retard the camshaft. The crankshaft and cam keyway correlation phase marks are noted on the diagram. This scheme has been provided to assist in more precise phasing of your camshaft.
