Aston Martin V8 1987 Vantage PDF

With the resurrection of the name Vantage 1977 Aston Martin fans everywhere breathed a sigh of relief, previously applied to the high-power versions of the DB six-cylinder cars, it was dormant since the advent of the V8 back in 1969.

A heavier car than the six-cylinder predecessor, the V8 suffered as emissions legislation became more strangulating, leading to concern that the traditional Aston Martin performance image may be lost. The arrival of the Vantage displaced such concerns. On Floating Aston’s V8 supercar in the league was a tuned version of the current 5340 cc engine breathing through a quartet of 48mm Weber carburetors instead of the standard 42mm units.

Valves and ports were expanded and changed the camshafts, the end result is an estimated maximum output of around 370bhp. Chassis changes are minimal, apart from the adoption of larger ventilated discs all around and low-profile Pirelli tires. The Vantage is easily distinguished from the standard product based on its blocked-off hood scoop, cleared air intake, chin and front lip spoiler on the tailgate.
